Africa-Press – Ghana. Ms. Kayla Adarkwah, Ghanaian American, with support from benevolent family, friends and organizations has launched a ” Mobile Sports Clinic ” at the Pepease Presbyterian Basic School in the Kwahu East District of Eastern Region.
The initiative bears the slogan “Faith in Action.”
Ms. Adarkwa, also a student Athlete at the Ardrey Kell High School, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, established Kayla’s Mobile Sports Clinic to provide portable medical supplies on the field to treat Athletes injured during sports.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she said “I recognize the crucial role of timely treatment in the Athletes’ journey, and I hope to extend the facility to other schools.”
Madam Djabakour Djorbuah, Headmistress of Pepease Presbyterian Basic School was pleased with the Mobile Sports Clinic provided for them.
She said to enhance effective first aid to injured Athletes, the school had liaised with the Pepease Health Center to train teachers in first aid treatment and added that “the Mobile Sports Clinic initiative has also led to the establishment of a first aid club for students. “
Medical supplies were presented by Professor William Ofori Ntim, Cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine, and Mrs. Sally Ntim, to the school on behalf of Ms. Adarkwah.
The supplies are medline skintegrity wound cleanser, 315 PCS first aid kit, trauma kit with essential emergency medical, medical scissors, eight-ounce spray bottle, AccuMed CMS-50D1 fingertip pulse oximeter blood oxygen sensor, permacharts pediatric first aid guide, among others.
Mr. Francis Tunu, Deputy Director of Education, Kwahu East District, said the number of items donated to the school showed that the donor was much concerned about optimising recovery processes of the injured on the field.
He said, “minor injuries during athletics were referred to the health centers due to lack of first aid on the field, so there is value in the medical supplies donated by Ms. Adarkwa.”
