Africa-Press – Ghana. The Eastern Regional Second Cycle School Sports Association has successfully concluded its Super Zonal Athletics Championship, with Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) and Ghana Secondary School (GHANASS) emerging as the overall winners.
The event represented the 36th edition of the Eastern Regional Inter-Collegiate and Super Zonal Championship.
The competition, held over 10 days in Koforidua, featured impressive performances from participating schools.
KSTS emerged victorious in the Boys’ Division, amassing 118.5 points, while GHANASS displayed their strength in the Girls’ Division by dominating with 127 points.
Outstanding athletes from both schools received certificates and gold medals in recognition of their remarkable achievements while their schools’ received trophies for their outstanding performances.
The victorious athletes are set to represent the Eastern Region in the upcoming National Inter-Schools Athletics Championship, where they are expected to display their talents on a larger stage.
Ms. Mercy Amo Darkoa, the Lady’s Representative of the Second Cycle School Sports Federation, praised the athletes for their exceptional abilities, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in honing their skills, which contributed to their impressive performances.
“We started as a team and still ended as a team,” she stated. “Whether selected or not, maintain the zeal with which you started with, and definitely you’ll come by chance.”
Madam Rachel Adjoa Amofa, the Deputy Director at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, delivered a statement on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister during the event.
She noted that the occasion was not merely a celebration of the outstanding achievements and performances of young athletes but also a recognition of the fundamental values of discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship that the games had instilled in students.
She emphasized that both sports and education serve as powerful tools in guiding students away from social vices, adding that active participation in such activities helps them develop essential skills and discipline necessary for building a brighter future.
She further reminded the athletes that their talents and ambitions were valuable assets for their future and stressed the importance of utilizing these gifts wisely, as they had the potential to create a lasting impact.
She encouraged them to aspire to contribute positively to their communities, noting that doing so would not only benefit themselves but also instill a sense of pride in those around them.
