Kumawu MP Launches Apprenticeship Programme

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, has launched an apprenticeship training programme to equip the youth in the constituency with employable vocational skills.

The launch also featured the distribution of tool kits and BizBox packages to about 150 young apprentices, drawn from various trades including carpentry, plumbing, hairdressing, shoemaking, glazing, beautician services and make-up artistry.

The initiative aims to empower young people with practical skills and provide them with the tools needed to transition from apprenticeship into independent master artisans.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Anim said the programme formed part of his long-term vision to address youth unemployment while promoting skills development, entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance in the Kumawu Constituency.

He disclosed that a second batch, expected later this year, would train an additional 300 youth, thereby expanding the programme’s impact.

According to the MP, the initiative was designed not only to provide technical skills but also to create a multiplier effect, where trained apprentices would mentor and train other young people in their communities.

Mr Anim stressed that vocational skills were critical for job creation and local economic growth, noting that the tool kits and BizBox packages—containing essential business start-up items—would support beneficiaries in establishing and sustaining their trades after training.

He urged the beneficiaries to remain committed and disciplined, reminding them that receiving tools and equipment was only the beginning.

“I will personally conduct monthly monitoring visits to all the master artisans to ensure that the apprentices are learning and applying the skills effectively,” he said.

The MP added that the programme sought to enhance productivity, reduce unemployment and strengthen the local economy by ensuring beneficiaries became self-reliant.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the initiative as life-changing, and pledged to make good use of the tools and training to contribute positively to the development of the Kumawu community.
