Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee, has commended the Ghana Police Service for ensuring a peaceful presidential primary on January 31.
Mr Osei-Owusu gave the commendation when he and the committee members paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Tuesday.
The former Member of Parliament for Bekwai commended the rank and file of the Service for ensuring a peaceful election.
He was full of praise for the IGP and POMAB for the comprehensive security arrangements and professionalism displayed by the officers throughout the country before, during and after the exercise.
“The visible police presence, effective coordination and neutral posture exhibited by personnel contributed greatly to maintaining calm and public confidence in the electoral process,” he said.
The IGP, Mr Yohuno, reiterated the Police’s commitment to their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.
He said it was also the duty of the Service to support all democratic processes through personnel’s dedication, discipline and professional policing.
