Africa-Press – Ghana. The Fosu family has confirmed the death of their beloved son, Charles Kojo Fosu, well known as Daddy Lumba.

According to a family statement, the music icon died on Saturday, July 26, 2025, following a short illness.

A statement signed by Fati Ali Yallah, Counsel for the Fosu Family, said, “Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives.

“His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.

“During this time of immense loss, we respectfully request privacy for the family and loved ones as they navigate this profound grief.”

The statement also added that the details of funeral arrangements would be announced in coming days.

Born on September 29, 1964, Daddy Lumba is considered a bonafide Highlife Hall of Famer, with many music fans hailing him as the greatest Ghanaian musician of all time.

Daddy Lumba began his musical career in the 1980s, when he released his debut album, “Yeeye Aka Akwantuo,” in collaboration with Nana Acheampong, as they were both known as the Lumba Brothers.

He has left an indelible mark on the music industry inspiring many musicians who have long regarded him as a Highlife hero.

Daddy Lumba’s death would come as a shock to many Ghanaians, both old and new, given his numerous timeless hits.
