Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Martin Kpebu, a Private Legal Practitioner, has been released hours after he was detained while honouring an invitation to assist with investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Mr. Kpebu had been held earlier in the day after a disagreement at the entrance of the OSP premises, where he was accused of obstructing an officer.

His lawyers said he was subsequently granted bail with conditions requiring proof of landed property and a surety, but when they returned to complete the processes, he was no longer at the OSP offices.

His detention followed intensified public criticism he had directed at the OSP, particularly at Mr Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor.

Mr. Kpebu had insisted that any inquiry into his corruption allegations against the Special Prosecutor must be conducted by an independent panel.

He argued that Junior Officers could not credibly investigate their own boss.

He maintained that during a previous engagement with the OSP, he was not interrogated but had only agreed on the procedure for submitting evidence, rejecting claims that he had been uncooperative.

Mr. Kpebu said he remained willing to assist the investigation but stressed that due process and impartiality were necessary for the credibility of the exercise.
