Microsoft Shifts to Apple Devices for Chinese Employees Amid Android Service Limitations

Africa-Press – Ghana. Microsoft plans to offer Apple’s iOS-based devices to its employees in China starting in September, citing the absence of Google’s Android services in the region.

This decision is crucial to ensure employees can access critical authentication apps like Microsoft Authenticator and Identity Pass, which play a pivotal role in Microsoft’s global Secure Future Initiative.

The shift, a proactive response to the unavailability of Google Mobile Services, including the Google Play Store, which restricts access to key security applications on Android devices in China, was prompted by the unavailability of Google Mobile Services.

According to Bloomberg News, which first reported on the internal memo, Microsoft employees in China, including Hong Kong, currently using Android phones will be provided with iPhone 15 models.

A Microsoft spokesperson emphasized the necessity of this transition, stating, “Due to the lack of availability of Google Mobile Services in this region, we look to offer employees a means of accessing these required apps, such as an iOS device.”

Microsoft has been increasingly under scrutiny following security breaches, including a recent incident where Russian hackers accessed emails of its employees and customers. Despite these challenges, Microsoft, committed to the Chinese market since entering in 1992, remains a significant player, bolstered by its extensive research and development operations in the country.
