Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, has launched a new maize-based food and poultry feed products by indigenous agribusiness firm Kedan Limited at Tumu in the Sissala East Municipality.

The new product dubbed: Ked Maize flour, Ked granule and chicken feed is available in sizes and prices to suit every home.

The launch, which attracted government officials, traditional leaders, development partners, security agencies, farmers and youth groups, marked a major milestone in Kedan’s contribution to agro-processing development and food security in northern Ghana.

Mr Puozuing described agriculture as the backbone of the local economy and praised Kedan for adding value to locally produced maize while creating jobs for the youth.

Kedan Limited, an integrated farming and processing company, which started in 2013 processes maize into human food products and high-quality poultry feed, while supporting over 2,000 smallholder farmers in the Sissala East and West areas through input credit, tractor services, extension support and market linkages.

The new products include maize flour for household and institutional use, as well as poultry feeds for chicks, broilers and layers.

The Regional Minister noted that food security was a national security and that in an era where the demand for safe, affordable, and nutritious food was paramount, Kedans’s new offerings were set to revolutionise not only local consumption but also cross-border trade.

He said, as the Upper West Region strives for agribusiness-led growth, farmers, financial institutions, and the youth were all called to rally around this vision, embracing the opportunities that the modern agricultural landscape holds.

“Let us all therefore contribute to lifting our region and country towards unprecedented heights of prosperity through agriculture. Here’s to a flourishing future, one where Ghanaian farmers, entrepreneurs, and consumers alike reap the benefits of purposeful agricultural initiatives.

Mr Issa Mohammed Bagalia, the Member of Parliament for the area commended Kedan for addressing unemployment and post-harvest losses through local processing.

He called on government institutions, schools, and feeding programmes to patronise the products and that supporting indigenous companies aligned with Ghana’s industrialisation agenda and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Mr Eric Kissi Dankwah, the Managing Director of Kedan appealed to government for the support after the introduction of new Products.

Mr Dankwah further appealed to the government to support the company with funding in the form of a loan through the Agricultural Development Bank to scale up production.

He noted that Kedan intends to increase its current processing capacity from 50 metric tonnes per day to 250 metric tonnes per day.

Mr Dankwah indicated that a partnership with the government would create employment opportunities for unemployed youth while providing sustainable income for maize farmers and other actors along the agricultural value chain.
