NDC Majority Caucus Commiserates with Family of Late Tamale Central MP

Africa-Press – Ghana. The National Democratic Congress Majority Caucus in Parliament on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, in Tse Addo, a suburb of Accra.

Dr. Murtala Mohammed was part of eight gallant men of the nation who lost their lives tragically in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

The late Tamale Central MP died alongside Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and six others when the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed in the Ashanti Region.

The Majority caucus offered words of comfort and solidarity to the bereaved family at their residence in Accra.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who spoke on behalf of the family, led an Islamic prayer for the late lawmaker and urged the family to take solace in the legacy he left behind.

He said, “We are worried here; we are consoling each other, but our brother is in a better place.”

The visit forms part of a series of national mourning gestures in honour of the eight individuals who lost their lives in what has been described as one of the darkest moments in the country’s recent history.

The fatal incident claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior government officials: Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, who doubled as the MP for Tamale Central, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Also among the deceased were Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, and NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong.

The crash also took the lives of three personnel of the Ghana Air Force who were the crew members aboard: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
