Africa-Press – Ghana. The newly elected executives of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) have paid a courtesy call on Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, to formally introduce themselves.
Led by new GOC President, Mr Richard Kofi Akpokavie, the elected executives sought the blessing of the sector minister as they seek to take Ghanaian sports to greater heights.
Mr Adams welcomed the GOC delegation and assured them of his support, noting that sports was a big business which must not be left to the government alone.
He expressed his excitement about the peaceful organisation of their elective congress and commended them for maintaining the image of the committee, adding that the adoption of the Commonwealth Games Association as part of their mandate is a feather in their cap.
The Sports and Recreation Minister emphasised the need for more women to play active roles in the GOC and urged women not to shy away from stepping forward to be elected as members of the GOC.
Mr Adams also advised the members to uphold the virtue of teamwork, saying, “We will succeed only when we work together.”
Mr Akpokavie, the President of the GOC, in his remarks expressed his appreciation to the Minister for taking time off his busy schedule to be part of their elective congress.
He added that it was appropriate to pay homage to the Minister before they set out on their duties.
Mr Akpokavie further pledged the support of the entire membership of the GOC to the success of the sporting fraternity.
