Mr Isaiah Kudjo Dordoe, the District Chief Executive of Nkwanta North District, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Department and the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North Constituency, have distributed relief items and some cash to persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The items donated included refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, and tailor machines, among other items, as well as cash, aimed at assisting them in their daily lives.
Mr Dordoe, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the ceremony, highlighted that disabilities are not an inheritance, as individuals may become disabled due to accidents and unfortunate circumstances.
He emphasised the government’s full support for individuals with disabilities to ensure they live a dignified life.
He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items they have received and utilise them effectively to ensure they provide intended support and benefits and also to alleviate poverty.
A total of 33 persons with disabilities consist of 17 males and 16 females.
The total amount allocated for 16 individuals out of the33 ccumulated to GHS32,000.00.
Mr Dordoe, together with the leaders, also presented a cheque of GHS39,104.00 to 20 other individuals with disabilities to further their studies.
He, however, urged all beneficiaries to continuously pray for the financial stability of the government to ensure consistent support for them.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the government for the support.
They also pledged to utilise the items they have received effectively to enhance their livelihoods.
