Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, has described the peace pact signed by the party’s Election 2028 presidential hopeful as crucial and timely, as the party delegates prepares to go to polls on Saturday January 31.

The largest opposition party has scheduled January 31, 2026, for its Presidential Primary to elect the NPP’s Election 2028 flagbearer.

In that regard, all five presidential aspirants on Thursday, January 22 signed a peace pact, committing themselves to unity, respect for party processes and support for the eventual winner.

They include the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP, Dr Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister, and Mr Kwabena Agyepong, the former NPP General Secretary.

Commenting on the peace pact in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odomase in the Sunyani West constituency, Mr Appiah-Mensah, who is also a member of the Bono Regional NPP Council of Elders said it was important to re-unite the party soon after the primaries, to win the Election 2028.

“Going forward peace must prevail in the party and before we can get peace, there should be justice,” he stated, and advised the party’s communicator to “talk good about the NPP and try to be neutral,” refraining from speaking for any flagbearer as the presidential primary drew closer.

Mr Appiah-Mensah said that would greatly strengthen the party thereby bringing about the required unity to the party soon after our primary.
