Political Party Supporters must Embrace Peace towards 2024 Elections – Akyemansa IPDC

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Theophilus Andam-Yankson, Akyemansa District National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Director, has urged political actors in the District to continue to embrace peace as Ghana gears towards the 2024 elections.

“Political parties activists must be circumspect, and must guide their supporters not to make derogatory comments that will mar the peace in this constituency and the country at large,” he said.

Mr Andam-Yankson said this at the formation of the NCCE’s Inter Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) of the District.

The IPDC is to serve as platform for peaceful negotiations on electoral concerns and threats of potential conflicts among political parties ahead of the 2024 General Election.

The members of the committee were drawn from traditional authorities, state institutions, local council of churches, Muslim Association, youth groups, market women and PWDs.

He cautioned them on the negative consequences of voting buying, misinformation and disinformation that had characterised elections over the years.

Chief Inspector Benjamin Gadagbui, a Representative of the Ghana Police Service in the District, said for the purposes of public safety, public health, public defence and violations of certain human rights, political parties should notify the Police when holding political rallies and demonstrations.

He also urged them to advise their supporters to remain in the ambit of the electoral regulations.

Miss Rita Boateng, District Electoral Officer, took the Committee through the legal framework guiding elections in Ghana.
