Africa-Press – Ghana. The Government is reconstituting Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) nationwide to eliminate inactive and ineffective ones.
The Landing Beach Committee ensures the equitable distribution and sale of premix fuel to fishermen through a premix fuel sales point.
Madam Emelia Arthur, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, said the new Committees would be formed through transparent, community-led processes to enhance local accountability.
She made the disclosure when she took her turn at the Government Accountability Series Press Conference held at the Presidency in Accra.
She said at the the start of 2025, only one Bulk Distribution Company (BDC) supplied premix fuel.
She noted that the Ministry had now engaged five additional BDCs, resulting in the supply of 14.2 million litres between February and June 2025.
“This diversification strengthens supply reliability and eliminates bottlenecks.
Premix fuel is now delivered directly from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to landing beaches, bypassing intermediaries,” she said.
“This reform ensures equitable access and reduces corruption and diversion. A comprehensive audit of all LBCs (2017–2024) is underway.”
Madam Arthur said any financial wrongdoing would be prosecuted.
The Minister said quarterly financial reporting and independent oversight mechanisms were being introduced to improve transparency.
She said out of 157 sites, only 31 were operational by the end of 2024.
Between March and July 2025, the Ministry installed 28 additional tanks, commissioned 11 new stations, and brought the total operational stations to 42.
These stations, she said, included real-time monitoring systems, significantly enhancing transparency and delivery efficiency.
