Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has announced that its President, Ludwig Annang Hesse, will deliver a Presidential Address on the theme “Do It Well, Do It Right – A Focus on Roads in Ghana” on Thursday, 19th February 2026 in Accra.
The address, according to a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said it formed part of GhIE’s sustained commitment to providing thought leadership, professional insight, and engineering-driven solutions to Ghana’s national development challenges.
“Road infrastructure remains a critical driver of economic growth, trade, mobility, and social cohesion. However, persistent issues such as premature road failures, inadequate maintenance regimes, and safety concerns continue to undermine public confidence and national productivity”.
It said he would also outline practical, engineering-led strategies to improve infrastructure quality, strengthen professional accountability, and ensure value-for money delivery across the road sector.
Speaking ahead of the event, the GhIE President noted: “Our roads are more than concrete and asphalt; they are lifelines connecting people, businesses, and communities.
When roads fail, the cost is measured not only in money, but in lives, lost productivity, and missed opportunities.”
He emphasized the need for ethical leadership and professional rigor: “Every stage of road delivery, from design and material selection to construction supervision and long-term maintenance demands ethical engineering practice.
If we continue doing things the same way, we will continue to see the same costly outcomes. It is time to engineer differently and to do it right.”
It said the Presidential Address would convene engineers, policymakers, regulators, contractors, development partners, academics, and the media for robust dialogue on improving road infrastructure, enhancing public safety, and strengthening project delivery systems.
“Discussions will also explore how the engineering profession can provide technical oversight, innovation, and independent guidance to secure Ghana’s road network for future generations.
“This address reaffirms GhIE’s role as a trusted national voice on infrastructure development, championing professional integrity, engineering excellence, and sustainable solutions to Ghana’s most pressing infrastructure challenges”.
