Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Says Makeshift Market Habitable

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly says the makeshift market created directly under the pylons around the Paa Grant round about was safe and conducive for traders.

The makeshift market for the relocation of traders from the defaced Jubilee Park and other traders perching around the Central Business District lies directly under a high-tension ECG cable, thus creating anxiety among traders and consumers alike on radiation emission and health and safety concerns.

Mr Michael Dzisi, the Acting Coordinator of the of the STMA, however, told the Ghana News Agency that pre and post analysis of the area by the ECG and staff of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission declared the area a safe ground.

“We have the data available for independent audit by individuals and groups who want further information as to the safety of this new facility”, he added.

He said the Assembly valued the lives of its human resources to put it in any form of danger.

Mr Dzisi said, “Even in the event of a cable slip nothing untoward will happen because it will fall down without any power to cause harm” and called on the public and traders, in particular, to help in decongesting the city.

The Assembly, as part of the decongestion exercise, had started moving traders to the newly paved market.

The Assembly, Mr. Ernest Kochie Awuah, the Chief Metro Guard, said had embarked on a serious decongestion exercise to ensure smooth movement of persons and vehicles.

He urged recalcitrant drivers and traders to comply with the STMA to ensure a cleaner inner city.
