SSNIT Flats District Bids Farewell to Catechist Akorli

Africa-Press – Ghana. The SSNIT Flats Pastoral District of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, has organised a farewell service for Catechist Emmanuel Akorli, one of the longest serving catechists in the district.

Catechist Akorli who served the Church for 24 years, started work at the Adaklu Dzakpo Congregation in February 1998 where he worked until his retirement in 2022.

A citation presented to him read: “You took the mantle of leadership of the Church in February 1998 when the then Catechist abandoned the congregation and joined another church.

“Though you were resident at Abutia, your presence was always visible in the congregation.”

The citation said though he was not receiving any allowance or incentive, it did not discourage him but rather motivated him to put in his maximum best.

Reverend Dr. Francis Senyo Kuvor, the SSNIT Flats District Pastor, in a sermon at the ceremony, advised Christians to open themselves for the Holy Spirit to direct their paths.

He stated that many Christians refused to open up for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, resulting in them becoming morally bankrupt, adding, “it is only the Holy Spirit that can help us to exhibit Christlike values.”

The sermon was on the theme: “Openness to the Spirit” which was based on Acts 2: 1 – 21, Romans 8: 14 – 17 and John 14: 15 – 17, 25 – 27.

Rev. Dr. Kuvor advised Christians to give the Holy Spirit a listening ear even in their adversities.

He extolled the selfless service rendered by Catechist Akorli to the Church and called on all to emulate his shining example.

He also appealed to him to put his expertise at the disposal of the church even in retirement.

Catechist. Akorli thanked the district for the honour done him, adding, “I am overwhelmed by the gesture.”

He was presented with cash donations by the district and the Adaklu Dzakpo Congregation in addition to the citation.
