Africa-Press – Kenya. KCB assistant coach Dennis Mwanja believes there is room for improvement for his charges despite a 38-0 win over Quins on the opening day of the Kenya Cup season
The former Kenya Sevens international said there were handling errors and hopes with the new signings, the team can carry the momentum from the first win against Quins.
“Yes I am happy with the win but there are a couple of areas we need to work on, especially our setpiece, ball handing and transition. We must get better in the subsequent matches for us to challenge for the title,” Mwanja noted.
He believes tougher tests will come for the bankers in the season. “ This league is a marathon and teams have stepped up. We must, therefore, be well prepared for the challenge that is coming,” he added.
Former Kenya Sevens skipper Andrew Amonde noted that every match is a learning curve for the bankers as they execute a new playing philosophy.
“I think the most important thing for us is to have a positive vibe heading into this game. I think it is important that we pick up from where we left off in the Floodlit tournament. We have played and won our first game of course with a few mistakes and it is up to us to go back to the drawing board in readiness for the next match,” Amonde said.
The match against Quins was delayed for an hour owing to player transfer issues. KCB could not field 10 players while Ngong Road-based outfit had seven players who did not feature owing to eligibility.
Darwin Mukidza, Oscar Sorano, Felix Ojow, Elphas Adunga, Jacob Ojee, and Davis Chenge scored a try each for the winners who led 19-0 at half-time.
In other results, champions Kabras beat Catholic University Monks 40-13, Menengai Oilers thrashed Mean Machine 72-6, Strathmore University edged Masinde Muliro University 23-21 while Blak Blad edged Nakuru 34-8 at Kenyatta University.
