Africa-Press – Kenya. AFC Leopards midfielder, Shawn Daniel Oloo, believes it is only a matter of time before his dream of turning a professional abroad becomes a reality.

Oloo, 19, reckons a good performance on the topflight stage in the new season will place him on the radar of English clubs.

“I’m looking at this club as a channel for pursuing professional football abroad,” Oloo said.

“I’ve always dreamt of playing in the top European leagues. I admire the English teams a lot, so maybe one of the teams in the PL would be a dream come true for me,” Oloo said.

An alumnus of Kakamega High School, Oloo says he has dared to dream after being inspired by his former schoolmates who have impressed on the European stage.

He comprised the Kakamega High School squad that clinched the 2017 Copa Coca-Cola Under 16 national title and the 2018 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Under 19 national title.

“Our team had the likes of Collins Sichenje and Henry Meja who currently turn out for AIK in the Swedish Premier League,” Oloo said.

The squad also had Alpha Onyango — currently with Gor Mahia, Tanzania Prisons FC midfielder Joshua Nyatini as well as Kariobangi Sharks defender Fredrick Alushula.

Oloo is making a return to the Den after featuring for National Super League (NSL) side, Mombasa Elite, for a season.

The youngster said he intended to join Leopards from Sofapaka in 2021, but a transfer ban imposed on the club by the world football governing body, Fifa, cut his dream short.

“I signed for AFC Leopards youth team and later joined Mombasa Elite on a loan transfer. The idea was to expose me to more game time and then I would return before the beginning of the new season,” Oloo said.

“I’ve now been promoted from the youth team and I’m happy to return to topflight action.”

He hopes to steer the 13-time Kenyan champions to another title in the new season. Oloo made his topflight debut for Sofapaka against Kariobangi Sharks on January 4, 2020.
