Africa-Press – Kenya. The African Political Parties Summit, which opened in Accra, Ghana, today, is a platform for engagement, consensus, and political culture building, the African Political Parties Initiative Executive Secretary Edite Ten Jua said.

In her opening remarks, the Executive Secretary emphasized the Summit’s essential role in shaping Africa’s political future and democratic landscape, addressing a diverse audience of political leaders, policymakers, and international delegates.

Held under the auspices of the APPI and the high patronage of President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, the Summit aims to foster inclusive dialogue, strengthen democratic values, and enhance collaboration among Africa’s political actors, she added.

In a landmark event held on March 7, 2025, President Mahama officially launched the African Political Parties Initiative (APPI).

More than 160 political leaders and representatives from across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and countries including Mexico and South Korea are attending —reflecting the Summit’s expanding international relevance.

Prominent attendees include senior officials from Ethiopia, South Africa, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.

Throughout the Summit, leaders have so far been addressing critical issues such as strengthening democracy, deepening political inclusion, ensuring credible elections, and building systems that reflect the aspirations of all Africans, especially the youth.

“The Summit is not just a meeting,” Ten Jua added. “It is a space where political actors reflect, engage, and collaborate to shape the political culture essential for peace, stability, and sustainable development.”

The African Political Parties Initiative is a flagship program of the Africa Governance Centre (AGC) aimed at strengthening democratic governance and political leadership across the continent.
