Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to report hospitals that charge for outpatient services to the police.
Speaking when he hosted grassroots women leaders from Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori and Kisumu Counties at Homa Bay State Lodge, on Tuesday, Ruto urged women to register for the Social Health Authority (Taifa Care) for easy access to medical services.
He went on to say that whenever they seek treatment in dispensaries, health centres or subcounty hospitals, they should not pay for outpatient services.
The President insisted that, should any of the facilities ask for payments, Kenyans must report the same to the nearest police station for action to be taken.
He added that any hospital that charges for outpatient services is out to steal from Kenyans.
“We have Taifa Care, and I want to urge women to register. Your job is to just register with SHA. When you go for treatment in a dispensary, health centre or subcounty hospital for outpatient services, you will be treated and given medicine. Do not pay any money, just go home.
“I know there are hospitals still charging the people. If a hospital asks you for money for an outpatient, report to the police because those are conmen who want to steal from you,” Ruto said.
He noted that the money paid to these hospitals by the government is for service to the people of Kenya.
The head of state warned that any hospital found culpable will have to face him.
“Any hospital that will try to steal money from Kenyans will have to face me.”
President Ruto has continued to reaffirm that the new scheme will guarantee equitable healthcare access to all Kenyans.
So far, over 25 million Kenyans have registered for the Taifa Care programme across the country.
