Africa-Press – Kenya. Tottenham Hotspur will face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup without midfielder Yves Bissouma, after manager Thomas Frank confirmed the Malian international has been dropped for disciplinary reasons.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Frank revealed that Bissouma was excluded from the travelling squad after repeatedly arriving late to training sessions in recent weeks.
“I have a simple rule — respect the team, respect the work, and respect the time,” Frank said firmly. “Yves has been late on multiple occasions. I don’t tolerate this type of behaviour. It’s not about punishing an individual, it’s about setting the right culture for everyone.”
Bissouma, 28, has been a regular in Spurs’ midfield since joining from Brighton in 2022, but his absence will be a significant blow ahead of the high-profile meeting with Ligue 1 champions PSG.
Frank stressed that the decision was taken to protect squad discipline rather than due to any fitness concerns.
“He’s a top player, no question,” Frank added. “But no player is bigger than the team. These standards are non-negotiable.”
Spurs are chasing their first UEFA Super Cup title, having qualified by lifting the Europa League last season. With Bissouma out, summer signing Conor Gallagher is expected to step into the starting lineup alongside Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield.
Whether Bissouma returns for Tottenham’s opening Premier League fixture remains unclear, with Frank insisting the midfielder’s focus should now be on “winning back the trust of the group.”
