Bosire Praises Murwa as Daystar Falcons Win Over Quins

Africa-Press – Kenya. Head coach Caleb Bosire reserved special praise for flyhalf Paul Murwa after the youngster inspired Daystar University Falcons to a 30-23 victory over Kenya Harlequin FC (Quins) in a crucial Kenya Cup clash on Saturday.

Murwa, a first-year student, delivered a composed performance, racking up 15 points through three penalties and three conversions to keep Daystar’s playoff hopes firmly alive.

“He is a first-year student, but he held his nerve and had good game management to guide us into the right areas of the pitch,” said Bosire.

While Murwa’s accuracy proved decisive, Bosire was equally impressed by his side’s defensive resolve, especially during a tense second half when Quins dominated possession.

Quins had a lot of ball in the second half, but credit to the team for their defensive shape and organisation. “We were able to repel so many of their attacks and win the match,” he added.

The result marked Daystar’s fourth straight win, following victories over Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (20-19), Kisumu RFC (41-28) and Nakuru RFC (35-20).

Bosire revealed that a heavy 45-19 defeat to Impala RFC last month served as the turning point in their campaign. “After that match, the players had a meeting. They knew they had played poorly, and it was a match we had targeted to win. That was the turning point for us this season,” he noted.

Bosire also credited squad stability for the team’s resurgence. “A lot of clubs signed players during the transfer window. We kept most of our players intact, and it has borne fruit with the four successive wins we have had,” he said.

Daystar now face a demanding run-in against Blak Blad, Nondescripts and KCB as the regular season enters its decisive phase. “We have entered the business end of the season. We have three tough games — all the teams we are facing were in the playoffs last season — but we are relishing the battle,” Bosire added.

Elsewhere, defending champions Kabras Sugar maintained their place at the summit with a 26-16 win over Blak Blad at Kenyatta University Grounds, Menengai Oilers beat Nondescripts 41-9, KCB thrashed MMUST 61-16, Nakuru RFC edged Impala 46-30, while Strathmore Leos overcame Kisumu RFC 43-39.
