Africa-Press – Kenya. Bunyore Starlets have been told to source for sponsors to fund their programmes ahead of their Football Kenya Federation Women’s League debut this weekend.
Vihiga County chief officer for sports, gender and culture, Philip Gavuna, said the club should not depend on the county for financial assistance since they are unable to handle these obligations fully.
“We only have Sh30 million to cater for our teams including Vihiga Queens, Vihiga United, Vihiga Bullets and Bunyore Starlets,” Gavuna said.
“We are, therefore, appealing to well-wishers and sponsors to chip in and help our girls achieve their dreams in sports.”
Gavuna said he cannot promise much to county teams since they can only access 50 per cent of the money in the county coffers following a court injunction.
Gavuna’s sentiments came after Bunyore head coach Daniel Arunga raised concern over the financial crisis that has rocked the team ahead of their first match against Wadadia Starlets at Mumias Complex.
Arunga said most of the sponsors they have been targeting have since gone quiet.
