Africa-Press – Kenya. Butali Warriors are scratching their heads hard after throwing away a 2-0 lead to share spoils with Strathmore gladiators over the weekend.

Butalii team manager Victor Opere said it is hard to believe that the match ended in a 2-2 after a comfortable lead.

The sugar millers remain unbeaten in the league although Kenya Police are breathing hard on their necks after returning back to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 win over USIU-A Mashujaa on Sunday. Butali have won the last three consecutive league titles.

After 14 matches, they lead the 10-team league with 34 points. They are seven points behind second-placed Police who are on 27 points with a game in hand.

“We dropped points but we take that as a lesson. We dropped our levels in the last quarter due to a concentration lapse.”

“We play Mashujaa in three weeks’ time and we hope all our players will be available. Captain Constant Wakhura was unavailable but that should not be an excuse.”

There are no changes in the standings since only two matches were played in the men’s cadre.

In the women’s category, Strathmore Scorpions inched closer to their first league title after edging out Lakers 1-0 courtesy of Gilly Okumu’s goal.

The Lakers redeemed themselves to annihilate USIU-A Spartans 3-1 on Sunday. Spartans are winless in their last four matches after two losses and as many draws.

Strathmore maintained the top slot with 25 points—eight points behind second-placed Lakers who have played one game more. Blazers drop to third with 15 while faltering Spartans close the top four with nine points.

Sliders are bottom with a meagre five points. Sikh Union are set to make a grand return to the men’s Premier League after dominating the Super League.

The Kenya Hockey Union League takes a week-long break this weekend, paving way for the third series of the Masters League tournament at the Greensted International School, Nakuru.
