Africa-Press – Kenya. The National Treasury has been advised to channel funds meant to enhance the blue economy directly to the six counties in the Coast region.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy claimed that some of the funds are given to some national government departments, organisations and parastatals to conduct seminars instead of initiating projects.

Timmay was speaking at Hola Stadium in Tana River county during the second day of Jumuiya za Kaunti za Pwani(JKP), Agribusiness and Blue Economy Investment Conference.

The governor said part of the funds could be utilised to fight drug abuse cases in Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale counties.

“Youths along the Coastal line who are involved in drug abuse could be useful if engaged in fishing activities like rearing crabs that attract tourists to earn an income instead of taking drugs,” he said.

He further urged Treasury to renovate the national heritage sites among them museums in Lamu, Kilifi and Mombasa counties to attract more tourists and more revenue.
