Africa-Press – Kenya. IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati is set to testify against the four IEBC commissioners who disowned the presidential results that indicated President William Ruto won the top seat.

Of the four commissioners, Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya have already quit leaving the suspended commissioner Irene Masit to fight for “her innocence”.

The three former commissioners resigned after President Ruto had suspended them from office.

According to a report by NTV, Chebukati will now appear before a tribunal formed by President Ruto to probe the four to testify.

The four embattled former and suspended commissioners will appear individually before the tribunal to defend themselves.

“Witnesses expected to testify against Masit and the other commissioners are Boya Mulu, Abdi Guliye, Chebukati and IEBC staff,” the report reads.

The hearing will proceed on December 20 with witnesses against Masit taking the first day.

The suspended commissioner has already moved to court to block the proceedings against her.

Masit, through lawyer Donald Kipkorir, wants the court to reinstate her and also block any plans for her replacement at the IEBC.

She further wants all her privileges that have been withdrawn reinstated.

“At the inter-partes hearing, the contractual rights of the petitioner existing ante December 2, 2022, as IEBC commissioner be reinstated,” Masit says in court documents.

In the urgent application, Masit wants Justice Aggrey Muchelule’s tribunal stopped from commencing the probe.

Masit also wants the court to temporarily suspend the effect of the gazette notice dated December 2, suspending her and her fellow commissioners, pending investigations by a tribunal named to probe their conduct.
