Africa-Press – Kenya. A chief has been charged with stealing relief food in Kangundo, Machakos county. Isinga location chief Bethwell King’ele took plea in Kangundo law courts on Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty and was released on Sh5, 000 cashbail. The chief who was not represented by a lawyer denied the charges. King’ele was charged with stealing contrary to Section 280 of the penal code.
The court heard that on March 16, 2022 at Matetani village, Machakos county, the accused stole two bags of rice and three bags of beans each weighing 50kgs valued at Sh25, 000, the property of Government of Kenya that went into his possession by virtue of employment.
He was arrested on the same day and arraigned in court but never took plea. The prosecution has lined up 13 witnesses to testify against him. The case has been slated for hearing on January 14, 2022.
