Africa-Press – Kenya. Chief Justice Martha Koome will admit 358 lawyers to the Bar on December 2.
Admission of lawyers to the bar marks a transition from studies to practising what they have been studying.
Last month, Koome commended the admission of more female lawyers in the legal profession.
She said that the new development echoes broader cultural shifts that recognise women’s potential to ascend to leadership positions.
The Chief Justice said Judiciary has 91 male and 81 female judges while there are 298 male magistrates compared to 295 of their female counterparts.
In May, Koome appealed to new advocates to actively enhance access to justice in the country.
While admitting 303 advocates to the bar, the CJ said the country had passed the 20,000-plus mark of the members of the advocates admitted so far.
In September 2021, Koome presided over the admission of 97 lawyers to the role of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya at the Supreme Court grounds
While admitting the lawyers, she urged them to abandon the age-old practice of calling for unnecessary adjournments that delay the hearing of cases.
