Africa-Press – Kenya. Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Thursday met COP28 President-Designate Sultan Al Jaber.

Tuya was attending the 19th Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) in Addis Ababa.

The CS said together with Al Jaber they discussed preparations for the Africa Climate Summit and COP28.

“We’re working on ensuring a clear connection and synergy between outcomes of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS) in Nairobi with ongoing multilateral climate action mechanisms including the COP28 scheduled for later this year in Dubai,” she said.

Tuya also met her Egyptian counterpart Yasmine Fouad.

She said they talked at the summit and Egypt’s interest in supporting Kenya’s 15bn tree-growing programme.

“Kenya continues to take lessons and draw inspiration from Egypt’s successful hosting of the United Nations COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh as we approach the first-ever Africa Climate Summit,” she said.

Accompanying Tuya were Kenya’s Climate Envoy Ali Mohammed and Climate Change Director Pacifica Ogolla.

The Africa Climate Summit is set to take place in Nairobi from September 4 to 6 at Kenyatta International Conference Center.
