Africa-Press – Kenya. Embakasi DCIO Simon Mutia Mwongela was on Thursday, May 13, arrested after he allegedly shot dead a guard.
A police officer who visited the scene stated that the incident took place in a bar in Kayole at 4:30 am when the DCIO demanded to get into the establishment.
“The guard told him that it was closed and it is at this point that he shot him dead,” the officer stated.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai confirmed the arrest, adding that the matter was being investigated as a murder case. .
“He has been arrested and is now under investigation for murder,” the IG stated.
The incident came just two days after two officers accused of shooting and killing a businesswoman in 2018, were found guilty of manslaughter.
High Court judge Stella Mutuku ruled that the constables shot with the aim of killing businesswoman Janet Waiyaki and her nephew.
She indicated that the officers had acted recklessly.
There was no shooting from inside the vehicle. By using the firearms to stop the car, they used force and acted contrary to the law,” Justice Mutuku ruled.
