The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has announced a Sh250,000 nomination fee for candidates vying for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election on July 16, 2026. Africa-Press – Kenya. Aspirants seeking to contest the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) will be required to pay a non-refundable nomination fee of Sh250,000.

DCP National Elections Board invited qualified candidates to apply for its ticket ahead of the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026.

In a statement, the party set a discounted nomination fee of Sh125,000 for youth and persons with disabilities (PWDs), as part of efforts to promote inclusivity.

Applicants are required to obtain and fill the official nomination forms available at the party headquarters, attach all necessary supporting documents, and provide proof of payment through the specified bank and paybill details.

The deadline for submission of applications has been set for May 2, 2026.

The announcement sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive race, with parties ramping up preparations for the upcoming by-election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared the by-election after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula declared the seat vacant on April 20, 2026.

This followed the death of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, triggering what is now expected to be a highly competitive race to fill the parliamentary seat.

In the notice, the Chairperson of the National Elections Board, Wanjiru Kago, emphasised the party’s commitment to transparency and discipline in selecting its candidate.

“We are calling on all qualified aspirants to step forward and present themselves for consideration. Our nomination process is guided by fairness, integrity, and strict adherence to party rules,” Kago said. “We expect a competitive but orderly exercise that will produce a strong candidate for Ol Kalou.”

Meanwhile, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has also confirmed plans to conduct its own nominations, setting the stage for a fierce contest in the constituency.

UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced that more than 10 aspirants have already expressed interest in the party ticket.

“We wish to announce that over 10 aspirants have expressed interest in running on the party’s ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou constituency by-election.”

She assured party members that the nomination process would be free, fair, and transparent, with the party planning to communicate the official nomination date soon.

“We have agreed to have a free and fair party nomination at a later date that will be communicated,” she said, adding that UDA will field a candidate in the by-election.
