Demonstrations will not put food on your table – Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has warned the opposition over planning demonstrations in the country. Speaking on Saturday, Ruto said that he will only allow demos that will impact farmers to produce food.

“Kama kuna maandamano mtu anataka kufanya afanye ya kwenda shambani. Hivyo ndio tuta tatua mambo ya unga,” he said.

(If someone ones to demonstrate they should do it on their farms, that is the only way to solve unga problem).

The President said that demonstrating against the government will not put food on the table. He added that the time for election is over and leaders should focus on developing the country.

This is after Azimio leader Raila Odinga called for three-day protests starting Wednesday to Friday. The protests that ran countrywide led to the destruction of properties, loss of lives and left scores nursing injuries.

Key Azimio leaders failed to show up during Azimio’s three-day demonstrations. Fear of attacks and looming arrests were the reasons that forced most of the Azimio leaders to go into hiding.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was among the leaders who were arrested before the demos started. He was freed days after arrest on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
