Africa-Press – Kenya. New details have emerged about the vehicle used in the abduction of an Ethiopian businessman in broad daylight.
In an amatuer video circulating on social media, Samson Tekklemichael was abducted by unknown men in Nairobi’s Kilimani Estate.
The businessman’s Bentley was blocked by a white station wagon in the middle of the road. Four men walked towards the drivers door, forced him out of the vehicle and bundled into a waiting vehicle.
Kenyans.co.ke has since established that the white Subaru Forester had a fake number plate.
The vehicle seen in the video was registered as KCD 445K. Upon searching for the vehicle on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal, the plate number belongs to another vehicle.
According to the portal, the plate number KCD 445K, as of November 23, is attached to a white lorry/truck manufactured in 2014.
The truck was registered in the country on June 3, 2015. The records further revealed that the lorry has only had two owners: a commercial bank and an individual.
Tekklemichael’s wife, Milen Mezgebo, stated that she had received a distress call from her husband, who notified her that he had been held by unknown individuals shortly before his phone went off.
She later received a call from a friend informing her that her husband’s vehicle had been left in the middle of the road.
Magzebo, who insisted that her husband was a reputable businessman, collected the vehicle and reported the matter to the Kilimani Police station as well as the Ethiopian Embassy. However, the police have not been able to trace the businessman.
“The police say that they are investigating, but they have not gotten any substantial leads. This means that we are not safe here,” Mezgebo stated in a past.
Kilimani police boss Andrew Muturi stated that the matter was being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives. The police have also denied any involvement in the incident.
The incident adds to the growing list of businessmen who have disappeared in the recent past under unclear circumstances. Civil societies have demanded an explanation from the police into the abductions.
