Africa-Press – Kenya. The PSC should not be included in the nomination process of IEBC players, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has urged. Addressing the parliament on Thursday, Oburu said the President “uses the Public Service Commission as an instrument to appoint people to the public service.”
Oburu termed the move to use the PSC as “giving the President who is a player in the elections a hand in the nomination of the electoral commissioners.” He went ahead to warn that using the PSC will cause a wrong perception about the IEBC.
“There will be the same perception about the IEBC and there will be demonstrations. I plead that we don’t include the PSC in this nomination process, “Oburu said.
This comes as the Senate held a special sitting to discuss the amendment of the IEBC bill. The Bill seeks to change the composition of the IEBC selection panel which is supposed to conduct the recruitment of IEBC commissioners.
Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi and Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot confirmed that the senators had been recalled to approve the Bill before the President declares vacancy at the electoral agency
