Africa-Press – Kenya. The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday convened a high-level meeting with stakeholders in an effort to stem corruption in the sector.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health led by the PS Public Health Mary Muthoni, Council of Governors, development partners and the civil society.
The meeting comes even as the ministry struggles to fight several scandals in various parastatals including the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority and the National Health Insurance Fund.
The aim of the meeting according to a statement released by the ministry is to develop a comprehensive roadmap aimed at eradicating corruption within the healthcare sector. The focus is on sealing corruption loopholes and preventing misappropriation before it happens.
Speaking during the meeting, Muthoni noted that corruption has been a major impediment to realising a healthier Kenya. Thiss he said has led to the escalation of medical costs and pushed numerous households into the depths of poverty.
“The collective resolve of stakeholders to strengthen governance and foster transparency is truly encouraging,” Muthoni said.
“Together, we can enhance accountability systems, ensuring a healthier and more prosperous Kenya for all,” she added. The collaboration’s primary objective is to root out the pervasive grip of corruption. The ultimate goal is restoring public trust in the health institutions and improving service delivery across the nation.
