Africa-Press – Kenya. EACC has welcomed the proposal by Attorney General Justin Muturi for the adoption of an anti-corruption anthem to be sang alongside the national anthem.
The Commission said such a move would instill a sense of responsibility in all Kenyans and constantly remind them of their obligation to say no to corruption.
“EACC welcomes the proposal by Attorney General Justin Muturi that the EACC Integrity Anthem be adopted and sang alongside the National and EAC Anthems in all relevant functions,” the commission said. Muturi proposed on Friday during the marking of the International Anti-Corruption Day at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi.
“We have a great country and at 60, we now know what ails us, what we need to do to grow. What habits we must discard but of course to do this we must continue to be reminded every hour every day just like we say the Lord’s prayer,” Muturi said.
The anti-corruption song titled ‘Tuangamize ufisadi, Tujenge Kenya’ by the EACC urges Kenyans to desist from corrupt activities such as bribery. “As indicated by His Grace Archbishop (Rtd) Eliud Wabukala on Friday, we must, as a country, re-engineer our value system. This is essential in the quest for an ethical Kenya,” EACC said on Saturday.
The commission, however, said the promotion of ethics does not in any way stop anti-corruption enforcement measures. “We must acknowledge that the ultimate panacea to corruption and other evils in our society is the repair of our shattered moral fabric,” EACC.
