Engineer testifies against ex-transport CS in Sh33m graft case

Africa-Press – Kenya. A new witness has emerged with testimony on the graft case against former Transport CS Michael Kamau.

The engineer, Abdul Rashid Sheikh Mohamed, testified on Tuesday how the re-designing of the Kamukuywa-Kaptama-Kapsokwony-Sirisia Road led to the loss of Sh33 million.

The witness told the court that re-designing led to variations in tender costs and further acquisition of land.

The witness stated that under procurement law, for a project to increase in price by 25 per cent, it should be re-advertised. This was allegedly not done.

He further testified that he took over the project after re-designing had been sanctioned by his predecessor.

Kamau is facing charges of flouting procurement procedures relating to the management of public funds.

Work on the road had been done by Engiconsult Consulting Engineers at Sh33,303,600

Kamau was suspended from the Cabinet on March 28, 2015, following his graft case.

The prosecution was led by counsels Verah Hamisi and Kahoro Terry. The case is fixed for a further hearing on November 16, 2022.
