Ex-police spokesman Owino: Raila is finished politically

Africa-Press – Kenya. Nobody will defeat President William Ruto in 2027, Siaya County United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Coordinator Charles Owino said Saturday.

The former police spokesperson was speaking during a women empowerment meeting at the home of Information Communication and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.

In an apparent reference to opposition chief Raila Odinga, Owino said that the former is politically finished.

“Bwana cha ndalo ne orumo completely,” Owino said in Dholuo.

This loosely translates to ‘The political heydays of that guy (Raila) are over, completely’.

Owino said that Raila’s political dominance is ending and it may be painful to many of his supporters.

Nonetheless, he said, that that is the truth.

Owino underscored that President Ruto defeated Raila in the 2022 presidential poll despite the latter having the support of the then incumbency led by ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Right now we have government support on our side. We have the army and the police; even the chief of defence is from here in Siaya,” he said.

He urged the people of Siaya to join the UDA party for, he said, the era of Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement party is soon coming to an end.

Owino said that Luos and Kalenjins (Ruto’s tribe) are both Nilotes who came from South Sudan and thus should work together.

Owino urged the Nyanza people to give support to Owalo as he strives to implement the government’s economic empowerment agenda.

On his part, UDA politician from Kasipul Odoyo Owidi clarified the concept of the government being for “shareholders” as was advanced by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“World over, governments are formed by winning coalitions or parties but resources are for all. That is why it’s not wrong to say that Kenya Kwanza government is for shareholders,” Owidi said.

According to Owidi, Raila and the opposition brigade should simply join UDA if they want to be shareholders in the current government.

Former MP Elizabeth Ongoro lauded the government led by CS Owalo for organising women and bringing experts to teach them how to create wealth.
