Fathers' Day: Rachael writes moving tribute to President Ruto

In her message, the First Lady compared Ruto’s mode of instilling values in the children to that of her own father.

“I have many fond memories of my father. But what has stayed with me through the years are the moments spent polishing his shoes. My father would make me polish his shoes in front of a mirror. And, whenever I thought I had achieved the perfect lustre, he would make me brush some more. My young hands would grow tired until I got the perfect shine,” she said.

She said Ruto, whom she referred to as Bill, has been doing the same with their children.

“Maybe it’s every father’s thing. To teach without telling. Today, as we mark this Fathers’ Day, I celebrate all the fathers who teach their children that, in everything they do, they must endeavour to “get the sheen right!”,” she added.
