Feels nice to vote for someone else after 15 years - Duale

Africa-Press – Kenya. Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said he is glad to be voting for someone else after voting for himself since 2007 as the Garrisa town MP. Duale spoke on Thursday in Garissa after casting his vote in the ongoing by-elections. The seat fell vacant after Duale was elected Cabinet Secretary.

“I have been an MP for a couple of months before I joined the national exhibits for the CS for defence, and I am hopeful that the people of Garissa will elect a new MP, and that MP will pick up from where I left and will work for the people of Kenya,” Duale said.

He said he hopes the MP that will be elected will come from the ruling party. The former MP urged the people of Garissa to conduct the elections peacefully adding that the government will provide security as the elections are ongoing.

He said IEBC must be given a conducive environment to conduct free and fair elections. “I am very happy that at least, I have voted for myself for many years now I am voting for another candidate. So today is a complete political shift,” the CS said.

“Since 2007 I have been ticking for myself now I have an opportunity to tick for someone else.”

The Garissa Township MP contest has seven candidates, Tom Mogere Momanyi (Independent), Ibrahim Malow (Narc Kenya), Abdikhaim Osman (DP), Nassir Dolal (UDM), Mohamed Barrow Dekow (UDA), Muhiadin Abdirashid Ahmed (DAP-K) and Abdifaisal Amin (Azimio).
