Africa-Press – Kenya. Inter-Religious Council of Kenya has urged Kenyans to put their political affiliations aside and move on to build a better country.

Kenya Catholic Conference of Bishops chairman Martin Kivuva said they should focus their energies on making sure those elected deliver.

“Having elected our leaders for the next five years, let us focus our energies on holding them accountable to deliver justice and faithful implementation of the constitution, the laws, policies, strategies and plans,” he said.

Kivuva urged Kenyans to pray for our leaders to have the grace to work efficiently.

IRCK chairperson Joseph Mutie urged the leaders to take responsibility for their actions and deliver what they promised in their manifesto.

“We urge you to take seriously the responsibility Kenyans have bestowed on you, do not destroy our nation through corruption and selfish gains, rather in humility and sense of service focus on the wholesome development of the nation,” he said.

Mutie said leaders and Kenyans need to be mindful of those who lost and not rub it in their faces.

“We urge you to avoid abrasive or excessive celebration keeping in mind there are many Kenyans who are wounded and aggrieved show them, love, by not provoking or deliberately hurting them,” he said.

The religious leaders spoke on Tuesday at Ufungamano house.
