Africa-Press – Kenya. Zakat Kenya has set the stage for its annual Iftar event, which sees the organisation distribute foodstuffs to needy Muslims during the holy month of Ramadhan.

The organisation will provide essential sustenance to over 2,500 families in Nairobi.

Sheikh Abdullatif Sheikh, the patron of Zakat Kenya, officially flagged off the food on Sunday.

Sheikh initiated the first phase of distribution with the dispersal of 2500 foodstuffs to families in need. The second phase is slated for the coming week.

Themed “Muslim for Muslim food relief during Ramadan,” Zakat Kenya seeks to foster a sense of community, emphasising the significance of supporting one another during this sacred time.

The ceremony unfolded at Patco Industries in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, where 15 trucks were flagged off to transport much-needed food supplies to various neighbourhoods within Nairobi County.

Ali Shariff, a board Member of Zakat Kenya, expressed his dedication to the cause, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

Ali Khalid, the Head of Distribution, is spearheading logistical efforts to ensure a seamless and efficient delivery of foodstuffs to deserving families.

Said Islam, director of Patco Industries Ltd, also Zakat Kenya board member, officiated the flag-off ceremony.

“We invite members of the media and the community to join hands in providing essential sustenance to over 2500 families in Nairobi during the sacred month of Ramadan,” Islam said.

“Together, let us make a positive impact, spreading the spirit of compassion and generosity throughout the community.”

Last month, Zakat Kenya in partnership with Premier Bank participated in a walk to raise funds for the Iftar event.

Premier Bank marketing and communications lead Marolyne Adalla said the move to support the course underscores its dedication to making a positive impact in the community by extending a helping hand to those less privileged.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming response, participation and turnout at the Iftar Fun Walk,” Adalla said.

The walk was flagged off at Adams Arcade Mosque and ended at Sir Ali Muslim Club.

“As a show of support for the cause, 90 per cent of Premier Bank Kenya staff members across our Nairobi branches participated in the walk. The bank is keen on ensuring that its employees adopt a healthy lifestyle by keeping fit and raising funds to support a needy family while at it,” she added.

Zakat Kenya vice chair Abdi Shakur Mohammed on his part thanked all the participants in the walk and for raising funds to feed the needy.
