Africa-Press – Kenya. Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has asked President William Ruto to engage him directly if he wants to reach Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking during a service at Calvary Christian Tabernacle Church in Mutituni, Machakos County, on Saturday, Gachagua said he had been chosen as the spokesperson for the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities.
“You keep sending people to look for Kalonzo. Please, if you want Kalonzo, talk to me,” Gachagua said.
“We have sat with Kalonzo and Kamba leaders, and Gikuyu, Embu and Meru. I have been told, for the time being, I’m the family’s spokesperson. So, if you want to talk to Kalonzo, don’t look for brokers—look for me.”
The former Deputy President described the GEMA and Kamba communities as “one family” and said they had resolved to plan their political direction together.
“We are one family, Kambas and us. Mt Kenya and Kambas have lost a lot by not sitting together to plan. But God’s timing is best. The time has come for the family to sit together—we are cousins,” he said.
Gachagua accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of taking advantage of the Kamba community for over a decade.
“Kalonzo and my cousins from the Kamba nation have been misused by Raila for 15 years. But now we are wiser. Raila, sorry, the family is back together. And to Ruto, please keep off family matters,” he said.
He also claimed that the Kenya Kwanza administration mistreated both him and the Mt Kenya region.
“Raila has misused Kalonzo for 15 years. Kenya Kwanza has misused me and Mt Kenya people badly. So those who misused others are now together, and those who were misused are also united. Ruto, please respect the community,” he added.
Gachagua reflected on his personal history in Machakos, recalling working as an untrained teacher at Kwanthanze in 1984, earning Sh1,230 a month as he waited to join university.
