Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has said he will not relent in his stand in dealing with the opposition. Speaking on Friday at Kigumo town in Murang’a, Ruto said he was not going to be easy on Azimio leader Raila Odinga like his predecessors.
“Ndio mimi nawaambia huyo jamaa nitamkalia ngumu mpaka atashangaa,” he said. Commenting on the anti-government protests, Ruto noted that the Constitution did not provide for anyone to loot or destroy public property.
Ruto reiterated that the government was not going to allow anarchy or violent protests. “We do not want impunity of any politician to cause mayhem or violence because they are chasing whatever it is they are chasing. Sisi tutakaa ngumu na tutahakikisha ya kwamba Kenya iko salama,” he added.
The President claimed that the opposition was blackmailing the government for a share in leadership. “Na mimi nataka niulize nyinyi ati wanataka kutufanyia vitisho ati tuwagawie serikali. Hii serikali si ni yenu mlitengeneza?” he posed. He said Kenya was a democratic country, affirming that was not going to change.
