Ichung'wah to Ruto: Don't allow your government to be sabotaged by cartels

Africa-Press – Kenya. National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has urged President William Ruto not to allow his administration to be sabotaged by cartels.

Speaking on Saturday, Ichung’wah said the President should take a strong position not to allow sabotage.

“You Excellency, I want to plead with you, don’t allow your government to be sabotaged or to be undermined by cartels and masters of state capture. Kaa ngumu Rais,” he said in Meru.

The Kikuyu MP insisted that the decisions the judiciary has made recently are akin to judicial overreach.

“What we are seeing today has nothing to do with independence of the Judiciary. What we are seeing today is they have overreached their mandate,” he claimed.

His remarks come a day after the Court of Appeal in a ruling said the mandatory Housing Levy was illegal.

President Ruto said the decision will be appealed.

Ichung’wah said that despite the Chief Justice holding a meeting with Judiciary leadership to find a solution to concerns he had raised, that seems to not have helped.

On Monday, President William Ruto met the head of the Judiciary and legislature where they agreed to solve challenges that have hindered service delivery in the country and corruption.

The meeting followed weeks of the President and his allies calling out some judicial officers for allegedly colluding with cartels to frustrate his programs for the country.

After the meeting, it was agreed that each arm of government will come up measures to tackle corruption, which will be presented before the National Council on Administration of Justice (NCJA).
