I’m back to politics and ready for 2027 - Wamalwa

Africa-Press – Kenya. Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) will announce its presidential candidate in June after conducting its national elections, former CS Eugene Wamalwa has said as he announce his return to politics.

Giving an indication he will be assuming the position of the party leader, Wamalwa disclosed he had been approached by the party leadership for the offer due to his influence.

He said having served in various government ministries for 10 years, it was his time to go back to politics.

“I am telling you this because I have had a chat with the leadership that after we have concluded the national delegates’ convention we shall be having a presidential candidate of DAP-K.”

He continued:

“I am truly honoured that my colleagues in the party have requested me and with the agreement of NEC and the NDC, I have told them I am ready to take over the leadership of the party and lead them to the next general election.”

Wamalwa said the party is planning to revamp and popularize the party which he termed as the fifth largest in the country ahead of 2027.

He said they will begin with the recruitment of members in January before the grassroots elections that are set to be concluded in March.

The party, he said, lost most seats in the August 9 general election because it was fighting with old, established parties with structures to the wards and polling stations.

“We want to strengthen our party from the grassroots, we want to go to every county in the republic. It will be aggressive,” Wamalwa said during the celebration of its first anniversary.

Moving into the future, the party according to the former CS seeks to have more elected leaders and even possibly form the next government.

He said they will be partnering with other like-minded individuals.
