Africa-Press – Kenya. Jubilee Party leadership of EALA MP Kanini Kega has cancelled a special National Delegates Convention (NDC) planned for Saturday.

The meeting which was to be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will now be held next month.

Party’s Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kutuny confirmed the change while adding they are yet to set a new date.

“We have rescheduled the meeting and plans are underway. We shall be issuing the official communication with regards to it in due course. We have already notified the members and delegates about it,” Kutuny told the Star.

According to Kutuny, the pending court case has prompted the decision adding their lawyers would “interpret the recent High court order”.

Kega who is the party’s secretary general convened the meeting through a circular dated June 6 following a National Executive Council (NEC) meet called to deliberate on the status of the party.

This is after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) gave a resolution dismissing retired president Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting held at the Ngong racecourse on May 22 as null and void.

“The purported SNDC held on May 22, 2023, was convened in contravention of the party constitution and was therefore also null and void,” the ruling by the committee chaired by Gideon Solonka read.

Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni moved to court on July 13 to reverse a decision by the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu to hand Kega and his team control of the party.

Justice Asenath Ongeri suspended the gazette notice issued by the Registrar ordering that a status quo remain in the leadership of the Jubilee gazette notice No 3195 of March 21, 2022.

In the notice, ORPP gazetted the intended changes made by Jubilee MPs allied to President William Ruto.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 20 (1) (c) and(e) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Jubilee Party intends to effect changes on their particular,” read the notice.

Kega also announced major changes in its leadership replacing all Uhuru’s allies.

In some of the changes, Kega replaced Kioni while nominated MP Sabina Chege took Uhuru’s position as the party leader.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan has been named the Deputy Chairperson to replace David Murathe.
