Kalonzo Pledges to Strengthen Devolution in Northern Kenya

Africa-Press – Kenya. Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has assured residents of Northern Kenya that a future government under his coalition would prioritise equitable development and strengthen devolution to benefit the region.

In a video on his X account, Kalonzo said communities in the area continue to face significant development gaps more than a decade after devolution began.

He noted that many residents still struggle with limited access to essential services such as schools, health facilities, water, and infrastructure.

Kalonzo suggested these challenges are not solely due to a lack of national attention or budgetary allocations, but are also linked to weaknesses in resource management and distribution over time.

“It is unfortunate that after thirteen years of devolution, many parts of Northern Kenya remain underserved,” he said.

“This is not because the region is forgotten in planning, but because the benefits of devolution have not always reached the people as intended.”

He added that his coalition intends to address historical imbalances and ensure local communities are central to development planning.

“We are making a firm commitment to the people of Northern Kenya,” he said.

“We will strengthen devolution, ensure resources are directed to critical services, and guarantee that every county receives what it needs to grow. No region should feel left behind.”

Kalonzo said his team aims to promote equal opportunity and people-centred leadership, adding that sustained investment in Northern Kenya would unlock economic potential across the wider region.

“Our goal is to ensure that every Kenyan, regardless of geography, enjoys the full promise of devolution. Northern Kenya deserves meaningful development and leadership that prioritises community wellbeing,” he said.

He further said his coalition is prepared to work with local leaders, communities, and development partners to support education, health, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

Kalonzo reaffirmed that Northern Kenya would remain a central pillar of his coalition’s national agenda.
