Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya’s Michael Karanga is set to face the world’s top amateur golfers when World Amateur Championships tees off on Monday morning in Manchester, England. The Kenya Amateur Golf Championships series leader will be at the tee box at 10:23 EAT to try his luck at the championships.
The Kiambu golfer will be starting his campaign alongside England George Holland and Spaniard Pablo Perez that will be played at Southport & Ainsdale golf club.
According to the draw released on Sunday afternoon, 250 golfers will be battling for the crown with each club hosting 125 golfers. At Hillside, Italian Pietro Bovari will be the first on tee alongside English pair of Max Reynolds and Jack Anthony McPhail.
In the opposing club, the Southport Ainsdale, Englishman Callum Bruce will clear the way in a flight of Australian Harry Goakes and Scottish Harry Bent. Karanga said he wants to emulate what he has been doing in the country and at the regional level to reign supreme on the colonial masters’ soil.
“I am well prepared for the tourney and I want to replicate what I have been doing locally and in Ethiopia to top the world. There is nothing new that I will be doing apart from playing good golf,” said Karanga.
With his trip to England, Karanga will miss the KAGC meeting this weekend in Ruiru. Karanga also tops the series with 669.9 points after winning Coronation Cup (Nakuru), Sigona Bowl, Windsor Classic, Muthaiga Open and Railway Invitation.
